Full-Time

Principal Embedded Software Architect (m/f/d)

Principal embedded software architect (m/f/d) with 10+ years in embedded Linux and production systems. Technical lead and multiplier. Remote / Stuttgart.

Your role

  • Own the software architecture of our products, from embedded Linux systems (e.g. Yocto) to MCU and RTOS based devices
  • Make and defend the key technical decisions: platform, boot and update chain, security, testability and long-term maintainability
  • Lead projects technically, from the first client conversation to deployment on production hardware
  • Set our engineering standards for architecture, code review, CI/CD and testing
  • Grow the team: mentor engineers, challenge their designs and turn your experience into how we work
  • Stay hands-on where it matters most: the critical code paths, the hardest bring-ups and the bugs nobody else can find

We build prototypes and products for large and small clients, quickly, pragmatically, and with as little overhead as possible. We're looking for an embedded software architect who has shaped the software of several products from first concept into production, and who wants to make a whole team better.

Most of our team works remotely. We also have a lab and office in Stuttgart, and being on site regularly is a plus.

What to expect

  • The role of technical reference for embedded software, with real say in architecture, tooling and how we work
  • A wide range of products and industries instead of one product line for years
  • Hardware and software developed side by side with our electronics and mechanical engineers
  • A small team with fast decisions and no corporate overhead

To apply

Tell us about two or three systems whose software architecture you designed: what the key decisions were, what your role was, and whether they went into production.

Must-have

  • 10+ years of full-time professional experience in embedded software development
  • A track record as architect or technical lead of several embedded products that went into production
  • Deep embedded Linux expertise (e.g. Yocto): you know the stack from bootloader and kernel to userspace and can find problems on any layer
  • Expert-level C
  • System-level thinking across the hardware boundary: you discuss interfaces, timing and power with electronics engineers at eye level
  • You have shaped how teams build software, not just followed existing processes
  • Experience mentoring engineers and representing technical decisions in front of clients
  • Professional level English

Strong nice-to-have

  • Rust in production
  • RTOS-based systems (e.g. Zephyr) alongside embedded Linux
  • Security architecture for connected devices: secure boot, update chains, key management
  • Deployment at scale: OTA updates, provisioning, field diagnostics

Nice-to-have

  • Certification-relevant or safety-critical development (e.g. CRA, IEC 61508, ISO 26262)
  • German proficiency
  • Based in or near Stuttgart
